What is cupping?

Cupping has been used by ancient healers dating back to the Egyptians in 1550 B.C. Cupping therapy uses negative pressure rather than compression to offer superior and favored results from an array of ailments. Cupping can be a stand alone treatment or used with other modalites.
By creating suction and negative pressure, this therapy releases rigid soft tissue, lifts connective tissue, brings blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles and drains excess fluids and toxins.

Receiving cupping can feel mildly uncomfortable or deeply relaxing depending on the individual. When using this therapy the speed in which the effects can change the tissue is truly amazing.

There are different methods of cupping including but not limited to: Stationary Cupping, Massage Cupping, Water Cupping, Bio-Magnetic Cupping, Flash Cupping, Thermotherapy Cupping, Cryo Cupping and many more.
Cupping is accomplished by positioning a cup over the treatment area and creating a vacuum by reducing the pressure inside the cups.

             Stationary Cupping
Using glass, silicone or plastic cups

This form of cupping is when the cups are placed in a region of the body and left in place without moving them. This form of cupping can be done on most areas of the body and works well with dynamic cupping, where we move the area/joint of the body utilizing stretching and movement to get a deeper release.

                      Massage Cupping
Using glass, silicone or plastic cups

Massage cupping can be combined with stationary cupping or used as a stand alone therapy. This treatment is when the cups are placed with suction but are then moved in a number of directions and over a number of areas to further the results of the treatment of the individual.

Stationary and massage cupping are great with orthopedic injuries, sports injuries, cellulite, detoxification, addiction, lymphatic treatments and many other ailments.

 Biomagnetic Cupping
          Using plastic cups with magnets

This treatment is a stationary treatment with the use of magnets in a plastic cup. Magnets have been being used for centuries to help heal.      Biomagnetic treatments assist the body in its own self healing balance naturally. They help to purify blood, promote circulation of blood, strengthen the immune  system, relieve subjective symptoms, sleep better and promotes the detoxification process.

**The most common misconception around cupping is the discoloration marks you may get during a treatment.**

These discolorations are NOT bruises!
These Marks are often misinterpreted as bruises but are just stagnation of circulation and congestion in the area. Although the marks can look painful and like a bruise they are not.

This discoloration can fade or darken hours after treatment. Depending on the amount of stagnation, severity of toxicity in the body and the activities the individual does following the treatment these discolorations will fade in a few hours up to two week of initial treatment. As treatments continue the mark will occur less and less.
